Slowly but Surely

If you’re one of the 3ish people that know about this site, you might be wondering why I haven’t put up any more content yet. Well, I haven’t yet come to my senses and given up on the idea of having a blog. I’ve just gotten into the part that’s actual work. There’s a ton of stuff to do on the back end to make all this go. Setting up an account so that I’m not just “admin” wasn’t too hard to do. At some point, I’ll find a picture I like and write up something useful in my profile. This is fine for now. I created a “Nuts and Bolts” category to contain some of these early posts. I figure putting some structure in place early will keep everything from turning into a cluttered mess. I edited the footer a bit and removed some junk that no one really needs to see. It was all going pretty well. Maybe that should have been my first clue that disaster was right around the corner.

GDPR is a law from the European Union specifically designed to make it impossible for me to have any time to create content for this blog. “GDPR” stands for “Garmonbozia, Despair, Pain, and Regret” and I’ve spent way too many hours trying to figure out what the hell I’m supposed to do to make this site compliant with this vague and confusing pile of legal garbage. I’ve taken the template that WordPress provides for the Privacy Policy and I’ve added in some of the obvious stuff. That didn’t take too long. Now there’s a bunch of stuff about figuring out what data I’m collecting and how visitors to this site can delete it. Even I as the admin of this site can’t even see, edit, or delete the majority of it. How the hell do I make it so visitors can do it?

I’m sure I’ll figure it out in time. It’s just frustrating that there’s such a steep ramp to get started with this stuff. So much crap to wade through before I can get to the fun part…
