Peppers – Day 50
I’m starting to see some buds on some of the more mature fresno or scorpion pepper plants. Maybe I’ll know soon what they really are.

It’s Monday, and I need to use my desk. Everyone is outside except the plants with special needs. I imagine the ones outside will get more light than they will inside even though it’s overcast today. Some of the scorpions and fresnos went into a bit of a funk after being out the other day,
The weather looks like it’s going to be bad today, so everyone is back inside spread out on my desk. So many plants…
The plants that weren’t holding themselves up looked better today. This little scorpion pepper plant was standing up nicely this morning. I took a little time to sort through and inspect everyone carefully. I had labeled all of these cups as chocolate ghosts, but the guy in the back on the right side looks a
A few of the plants haven’t been very solidly rooted in their cups. This scorpion pepper plant is a good example. It’s really tall and flimsy, and some of the roots at the base of the stem are exposed. I pulled it out of the cup and took off about a third of the soil
I spent some time noting the differences between some of the plants this morning. The Bahamian goat pepper has dark green, bumpy leaves with short stems. The leaves are clustered closer to the main trunk of the plant. They resemble the scotch bonnet plants I posted previously. The scorpion pepper has much smoother leaves at
I thought that this little chocolate ghost plant was dead. Its first leaves withered and it was just a little stick coming out of the soil. I’m not sure what happened to it, but it definitely wasn’t healthy. I had mostly given up on it, but I kept making sure it had water and light.Â
I think the scotch bonnet pepper plants are now my current favorites. There’s just something really pretty about the density, shape, and color of the leaves that I find really appealing.
It’s Monday again already and time for me to get back to work. I shoved the plants out of the way to make some room for my laptop. It’s still too cold and windy for them to go outside.
The new mad hatters have managed to pull the seeds off of their heads as they’ve come up. When I put them in the peat pods, I stuck the root and the seed into the soil and left the bend in the stem just barely sticking out of the soil.  I’ll have to make
