It’s been 7 days, and I have 67 pepper seeds turning into plants. That’s a lot more than I expected, and I still have a ton of seeds still waiting to germinate.
Scorpions and Chocolate Ghosts seem to be doing pretty well so far.
The Fresnos and Mad Hatters are starting to take off.
I had to split the Chocolate Ghosts across containers. Keeping everything organized is getting to be a challenge. Fresh Scotch Bonnets will be an integral part of some Jamaican flavored food this summer. I’ll probably have to give away some of these Mystery Pepper plants. Last time I grew some, the plants produced a ton of peppers. I was hoping that at least one or two of the seeds were still viable. I have 7 so far.
This container is an eclectic mix of peppers. The pod in the lower right is torn up because I didn’t see the Lemon Drop seed I thought was in it today. I tore it open to see where it was and it’s just not there. Did I get confused and miscount? Was it just an empty pod? Or did aliens abduct it? A few more germinated today, so I still have plenty, but I’m still confused. I think one of the Carolina Reapers germinated, but I’m not certain. I had a very helpful kitty mix up that part of the tray, so it might be some other type of pepper. I have some more Ghost and Gator Jigsaw peppers in another container, but only one Yellow 7-Pot so far. I’m hoping to get a couple more of those to germinate. I’ve never seen them sold in stores around here, and I’ve never tried one.
I ran out of space and started a new tray today. I made little paper cups and filled them with some garden soil. I didn’t have any potting mix. It’s not ideal, but I think they’ll be ok.
The Sweet Basil is doing find. The AeroGarden is a really nice thing for growing herbs.
The Siam Queen Basil came up today too. Thai basil has a little sharper taste than the Sweet Basil.
I was considering putting some of the peppers outside in pots since I’m running out of room inside, but I think I’ll hold off until I’m certain that we’re really past all the cold weather. It’s not uncommon to get snow around Easter. I might set up a fan to help harden up the baby plants, and I’ll need to ease them into the sunlight when they finally go outside.
